Private Pay Medical Transportation in Charlotte, NC

The Doctor Ride is a private pay non-emergency medical transportation (NEMT) service serving Charlotte and the surrounding communities. We provide safe, private, professional rides to and from medical appointments, procedures, treatments, and discharges, with the kind of dependability and personal attention that brokered or shared transportation can't match.

Because we are a private pay service, you are never one of several stops on a shared route, and you are never left waiting on a dispatcher's schedule. Your ride is dedicated to you, arrives on time, and gets you to your appointment with no detours. Use the estimate tool above to see your price up front, then submit your request and our dispatch team will confirm the details.

Services We Provide

We transport ambulatory and wheelchair passengers across the Charlotte region for nearly every kind of medical visit, including:

  • Doctor and specialist appointments
  • Outpatient procedures and same-day surgery
  • Colonoscopy, endoscopy, and other sedation visits
  • Dialysis and recurring treatment schedules
  • Infusion and chemotherapy appointments
  • Physical therapy and rehabilitation
  • Hospital and facility discharges
  • Imaging, lab work, and follow-up visits

How Our Pricing Works

Our pricing is straightforward and transparent. Each ride includes a base fee based on whether you need ambulatory or wheelchair transport, plus a per-mile rate for the distance traveled. The estimate tool above calculates your price the moment you enter your trip, so there are no surprises and no hidden charges.

A few appointments fall outside standard weekday hours. Rides before 7:00 AM or after 7:00 PM, on weekends, or on major holidays may carry an additional surcharge, which the tool shows you clearly. Reserved Members pay 50% off every base fee and have after hours and weekend surcharges waived entirely.

Ride Types Explained

One-Way

A single trip from your pickup location to your destination. Ideal for a drop-off when you have another way home, or for a one-direction transfer.

Round Trip (Will Call)

We take you to your appointment and return to pick you up when you call to say you're ready. Best when your end time is flexible or hard to predict.

Wait & Return

Your driver stays on site for the entire visit and brings you home the moment you're discharged. Required for many sedation and anesthesia procedures.

Who We Serve

Our clients include seniors who no longer drive, patients recovering from surgery or sedation, people managing recurring treatments like dialysis and infusion, wheelchair users who need a properly equipped vehicle, and family members or caregivers coordinating reliable transportation for a loved one. Whether you need a single ride or a standing weekly schedule, we build the trip around you.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does private medical transportation cost in Charlotte?
Pricing is based on transport type (ambulatory or wheelchair), the distance of your trip, and your appointment time. The estimate tool at the top of this page gives you a price in under a minute with the full breakdown. You'll see your total before you decide to submit a request.
Do you accept Medicaid or insurance?
We are a private pay service and do not bill Medicaid or insurance. This is what allows us to offer dedicated, private, on-time rides without the delays and shared routing common with brokered Medicaid transportation. We can provide a receipt for your records if you wish to seek reimbursement through an HSA, FSA, or other arrangement where eligible.
How far in advance should I book?
We recommend booking at least 24 to 48 hours ahead to guarantee your preferred time, especially for recurring appointments. Same-day rides are sometimes available depending on driver availability. For urgent same-day requests, call us directly at (704) 992-7433.
Do you offer wheelchair accessible transportation?
Yes. Our vans are equipped for wheelchair passengers with secure tie-downs and safe loading. Simply select wheelchair as your transport type in the estimate tool and your quote will reflect wheelchair pricing.
Are your drivers trained for medical transportation?
Yes. Our drivers are professional, background-checked, and CPR-certified, with experience assisting passengers who have mobility challenges or are recovering from procedures. Every ride includes door-to-door assistance.
Can I book a ride for a family member or patient?
Yes. Many of our trips are arranged by family members, caregivers, and medical offices on behalf of a patient. Just enter the rider's details and we will coordinate directly with whoever you tell us to.
What is the difference between one-way, round trip, and wait and return?
A one-way is a single trip to your destination. A round trip (will call) takes you there and picks you up when you call to say you're ready. Wait and return means your driver stays on site for the entire appointment and brings you home as soon as you're discharged, which many sedation procedures require.
